2017 Lights Fantastic Storefront Decorating Contest Winners

As a part of the Lights Fantastic festivities, again this year Carbondale Community Arts and Carbondale Main Street co-sponsored a storefront decorating contest among local businesses. This year’s theme was “The Polar Express.”

Participants included: Carbondale Elks, Carbondale Tourism, Castle Perilous Games, Cristaudo’s, Fat Patties, Fringe the Salon, Global Gourmet, Longbranch Bakery and Café, Phoenix Cycle, Sabor de Mel, Salon Euphoria, Carbondale Park District LIFE Center, The Thrift Shop, Tres Hombres, and Varsity Center for the Arts.

Windows were painted, lit, embellished and beautifully decorated and all look fantastic!

After judging was completed, Cristaudo’s came in third with charming scenes narrating the story “The Polar Express.” The imagery was painted directly onto the windows by one of Cristaudo’s talented owners, Jennifer Rollinson. The storefront awning was festively draped with twinkling lights, adding to the scene.

Carbondale Tourism took second place with their precious vignette of the Polar Express making its way through the snowy landscape, past flora and fauna on its way to the North Pole. The display made crafty use of repurposed materials and found items.

Global Gourmet as selected as this year’s first place winner with their incredible interpretation of this year’s theme, including a fabulously embellished display which creatively repurposed wine bottles as “Global Express” train cars and included scenes painted onto the windows, all of which was beautifully framed by festive pine boughs.

Please show support for these local businesses during this (and any) time of year, their efforts in creating a festive atmosphere on parade day and all winter long!
