2016 Southern Illinois Airport Plane Pull Flier[3]Special Olympics Illinois and the Law Enforcement Torch Run have partnered with the Southern Illinois University School of Aviation to host the inaugural Southern Illinois Plane Pull on September 24, 2016 at the Southern Illinois Airport in Murphysboro, IL. The Plane Pull features the ultimate man versus machine battle as teams of up to 8 play tug-of-war with SIU Aviation’s 737, weighing nearly 60,000 lbs. That’s right, the plane weighs nearly 30 tons!

Each participant must raise a minimum of $50 and teams can have up to 8 members ($400 for a team of 8). Teams will compete by pulling the aircraft 12 feet as quickly as possible. Awards are given to the fastest pull in each division, fastest pull overall, top fundraiser and top fundraising team.

Teams compete in one of three divisions:

· Open Division (ideal for companies, school teams, gyms, CrossFit’s, clubs, friends and families)
· Public Safety Division (law enforcement officers, fire fighters, paramedics, DNR, DOC and military personnel; teams need at least 4 public safety competitors to qualify)
· SIU Division (a division created solely for students and staff of Southern Illinois University)
