CARBONDALE – Fans of contemporary, art-house cinematic scoring or classic silent films won’t want to miss the Invincible Czars performing live original accompaniment to 1925’s silent film “Phantom of the Opera.”
The unique group is making a stop at The Varsity on Friday, Oct. 26. This show opens a weekend of Halloween events at The Varsity, and patrons are encouraged to dress for the occasion.
The Austin, Texas-based band makes quirky, bold music and have filled theaters all over the U.S., delivering intricately crafted and precisely performed silent film soundtracks. Using a mix of acoustic and electric instruments, sound effects and vocals, the Invincible Czars have been praised across the country for making old silent classics frightening and entertaining for modern audiences.
Catch the Invincible Czars and “Phantom of the Opera” at 7:30 p.m., Friday, Oct. 26. Tickets are $10 advance at thevarsitycenter.eventbrite.com. They also will be available at the door for $15 at 7 p.m., when the doors and the Varsity Bar opens. The bar offers beer, wine, select cocktails, soda and snacks. Cash and cards are accepted.
