CARBONDALE – One of Southern Illinois’ best photographers will be exhibiting his photos of Southern Illinois musicians at work and at play at The Varsity Gallery. “MASA,” or “Music Around Southern Illinois” will usher in a weekend of events at The Varsity.
A reception for the photographer will begin at 6 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 28. The Varsity Bar will be selling local craft beers and traditional beers, locally produced wine and other wines, select cocktails and Excel sodas. Small snacks will be available at the reception.
Many of Longmire’s framed prints will be for sale – some of them autographed – and prints can be ordered.
Longmire is an accomplished photographer whose shots show his many interests, as well as his talent. But, he is particularly fond of shooting musicmakers.
“I like taking pictures of musicians, candid scenes and performances, because I do not have to direct the action and sound super bossy,” Longmire said. “And, I really enjoy bringing attention to the wonderful local musicians I shoot pictures of.”
Musicians he has captured include Mo Pitney, Ivas John, Big Larry, Robbie Stokes, Tawl Paul, Joe Castregon, Nate Graham, Marshall Anderson, Tim Crosby, The Bankesters, Brian Curran and many, many more.
The Varsity is downtown Carbondale at 418 S. Illinois Ave. Regular exhibit hours are 2-4 p.m. Monday through Friday or by special arrangement. For more information, go to www.thevarsitycenter.org or facebook.com/varsitycenter.
